What is Nepeta subsessilis

Nepeta subsessilis or misogawasou (scientific name: Nepeta subsessilis) is endemic to Japan
and is a large perennial plant in the family Lamiaceae.
It grows naturally on grasslands and mountain streams in subalpine mountains of Hokkaido to north Chubu region.
The plant height is 50-100 cm and the stem section is square and upright.
The leaves are green, have sparse thin hairs on both sides, and are opposite.
The leaves have a stalk, the leaf blade has a pointed broad lanceolate shape, and the leaves have fine wavy saw teeth.
In August, extend the flower stalk and attach a few purple, lip-shaped flowers to the axils.
In the lip-shaped flower, the upper lip is split two times and shorter than the lower lip, and the lower lip is split three and the purple spot in the center is conspicuous.
