It is a rare species native to Makawao in Kauai island. It is a tropical hibiscus species that makes yellow or orange flowers bloom. The genus "Hibiscus" is a Latin word for "Hibis (Egyptian goddess)", species species name "saintjohnianus" is a contribution to a botanist botanist "Harold St. John".
