Poplar

Poplar (scientific name: Populus x canadensis) is a heat-resistant, and drought-resistant deciduous tree in the family Salicaceae, native to Italy and France. The tree is broom-shaped, and in the late spring, yellow and red florets bloom in the string inflorescence. White fluff scatters after the flower. It is used for tree planting because the tree grows fast. Since the material is soft and suitable for processing, it is used as a material for packaging boxes or pulp. Because it is not durable, it may collapse due to a typhoon. Another name, Yamanashi, is based on the fact that when the wind blows, the leaves rub against each other and make a sound. The leaves are rhomboid triangles, with fine serrations on the edges. It grows easily with cuttings, and because it is an airborne flower, pollen is carried away by the wind and propagated. It is famous for the row of poplar trees at Hokkaido University.
