Cremastra appendiculata

Cremastra appendiculata (scientific name: Cremastra appendiculata var. Variabilis) are native to Japan, the Korean peninsula, and China, and are perennials belonging to the family Orchidaceae. It grows naturally in the forests of Hokkaido to Kyushu. A pseudo-corm like a bulb has an egg shape of about 2cm diameter. The leaves are cortical oblong, 3 veins, and only 1 or 2 leaves grow. In early summer, the inflorescences are extended from the pseudosphere, and 10 to 20 rings of light purple elongated flowers face down. The flower looks like a group. The Japanese name is based on the resemblance to the “Saihai” that warriors use to command soldiers.
