What is Shirobana iwatobacco

Shirobana iwatobacco (scientific name: Conandron ramondioides f. leucanthus) is a white flowering variety of the Iwatobacco (scientific name: Conandron ramondioides) which is a deciduous perennial in the family Gesneriaceae native to Japan and Taiwan. It is an early flowering species compared to the C. ramondioides. Shirobana iwatobacco(C. ramondioides f. leucanthus) grows naturally on damp rocky surfaces south of Honshu, Japan. It produces 3 to 10 star-shaped white flowers in summer with a spreading inflorescence. The flowers are cylindrical with five lobes at the tip. The stems, undersides of the leaves and flowers are hairy. It hibernates with its leaves rolled up in winter. The name "rock tobacco" comes from the fact that its leaves look like tobacco leaves.
