What is Asarum caulescens

Asarum caulescens (Futaba Aoi, scientific name: Asarum caulescens) is an endemic species of Japan, and is a short-growing perennial plant of the family Aristolochiaceae. Native to the mountains of Tohoku to Kyushu in Japan. The rhizome crawls sideways without standing up, extending two leaves from the tip of the stem to the opposite side. In spring, a flower pattern is stretched between the leaves and a light red flower blooms downward at the tip. The flower degenerates quickly, but the three sepals coalesce at the base and look like a flower. The Tokugawa family's Mitsuba Aoi" was designed by combining three leaves.
