What is Alpine juniper

Alpine juniper,or Rissiri juniper (Scientific name: Juniperus communis subsp. alpina var. montana) is a variant of Juniperus communis, an evergreen needle-leaved shrub in the family Cupressaceae. It grows crawling in the alpine rocky terrain of the northern hemisphere, such as Rishiri Island and Greenland. The leaves grow in a dense ring, three at a time, on the stem. The leaves are washed elongated and elliptical and arched. The undersides of the leaves are dark green with white pore belts. It is a dioecious plant and is a wind-borne flower.
