Gentiana acaulis

Gentiana acaulis（Scientific name:Gentiana acaulis ） is an alpine perennial herb in the family Gentianaceae, native to south-central Europe. It grows naturally in acidic soils on subalpine to alpine slopes in the Alps and Pyrenees etc.. The grass is low at about 10 cm tall, but it is fertile and spreads in a matted manner. In late spring and summer, it produces bright blue flowers with trumpet-shaped, five-tipped lobes at the top of the stem. The petals have vertical olive-colored stripes. The species name "acaulis" means "short-stemmed" in Latin. The pure blue flowers are prized.
