What is Wollemia nobilis

Wollemi Pine or the Jurassic Tree (scientific name: Wollemia nobilis) is a needle-leaved tall tree native to Australia and belonging to the genus Wollemia in the family Araucariaceae. It is said to be the oldest seed plant in the world. The name 'Jurassic Tree' is a nickname given in Japan and is called Wollemi Pine in the English name. The Jurassic Tree has a multi-parted trunk and dark green leaves. The tree's branches and leaves hang down in two rows in a dioecious strain. The tips of the winter buds are covered with a pink resin. There is a bubbly, chocolate-like bark on the surface of the trunk. The female flowers are elliptical, consisting of balls. The male flowers are reddish-brown, cylindrical, and hang down in a tail shape. The post-flowering fruit is spherical and has long spikes. The tree pictured is a young tree, about 1.5 m tall and 9 years old, found in a valley in Wollemi National Park, 200 km west of Sydney, Australia, in 1994. This discovery makes it the oldest extant seed plant (200 million years ago, 150 million years ago) and a rare species, even older than the metasequoia of the Tertiary period (about 60 million years ago -).
