What is Job's tears

Job's tears or Juzu-dama, (scientific name: Coix lacryma-jobi) is a large annual herbaceous plant of the genus Coix in the Poaceae family, native to Southeast Asia. It is found near waterways in Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu and Okinawa and grows to a height of 1 to 2 m. The stems are branched and large. The stems branch and grow into large plants. From summer to autumn, spike inflorescences grow from the leaf axils and bear small ears of female and male flowers. Its autumn fruits are shiny, hard and bead-shaped, and fall off when ripe. The fruit has an air layer inside and floats lightly in the water and is carried away to breed in the area where it is harvested. C. lacryma-jobi is the original species of C. lacryma-jobi var. ma-yuen.
