Ricciocarpos natans

Ricciocarpos natans (scientific name: Ricciocarpos natans) is a planktonic moss in the family Ricciaceae. This species alone makes up one genus and one species. It is found in fields and ponds all over the world. Its leaf-like body is green with a diameter of 1-2 cm, consisting of fat and sponges. It does not produce flowers or seeds, but reproduces by spores. The spores are dark brown with an elevated network of spores about 50 μm in diameter. It gets its name from the similarity of its leaf shape to that of a Ginkgo biloba tree.
