Chamaerops (scientific name:Chamaerops humilis) is an evergreen, cold-hardy shrub native to the Mediterranean that belongs to the palm family Arecaceae. It grows very slowly. The trunk grows in bundles of several stems. It produces a cluster of 10 to 20 fan-shaped leaves with long petioles from the tip of the trunk. The petiole has sharp spines that prevent animals from feeding on it. The cross-section of the leaf is triangular, and the tip of the leaf lobes has two lobes. The plant is dioecious. In early summer, yellow inflorescences grow between the leaf axils and produce many small yellow flowers.
