What is Japanese Elm

Japanese Elm (Scientific name: Ulmus davidiana var. japonica) is a deciduous broad-leaved tree native to Japan and belongs to the elm family Ulmaceae. It grows wild from Hokkaido to Kyushu. The bark is grayish brown and deeply cleft vertically. The sticky liquid that comes out when the bark is peeled off is used for adhesives. The flowers are petal-less, yellow-green and bisexual, with stamens and pistils. The tree can grow up to 30 meters tall, so it is used as a park tree or a roadside tree rather than for home gardens.
