Jatropha podagrica or Budda's (scientific name: Jatropha podagrica) is a tropical shrub (tuberous root plant) native to Central and South America, belonging to the family Euphorbiaceae. In its place of origin, it grows wild in woodlands. The tree is about 30 to 100 cm tall and has a spike-shaped trunk. The leaves have long petioles and are bright green with three to five palm-like lobes. From summer to autumn, long flower stalks emerge from the spike-shaped trunk, and at the tips of the stalks, many small five-petaled flowers with a coral-like vermilion-red color are produced.
