What is Citrus grandis
🍊「Not Yet Fruiting」 (English)
In the southern mountains,
stood a single Tosabuntan tree.
It had sprouted from a seed,
and twenty years had passed.
It had never borne fruit.
But its roots ran deep,
and its branches reached for the sky.
That morning,
a single drop of water landed on its leaf.
“Good morning, Tosabuntan.
Today is a milestone for you,” said the drop.
“A milestone?”
The tree rustled its leaves.
“Yes. It’s been twenty years since you took root here.
No one grafted you, no one helped you.
You’ve grown with your own strength.
That’s something to be proud of.”
The tree looked up at the sky.
“But I haven’t borne fruit yet.
Not even a flower.
Can I really be called an adult?”
The drop shimmered gently.
“Becoming an adult isn’t about bearing fruit.
It’s about putting down roots
and standing tall through the wind.
You’ve already made this land your home.”
The tree swayed softly.
“Thank you.
I’ll keep growing here,
in my own time—
until the day I finally bear fruit.”
Citrus grandis
Citrus grandis, Wentan Pomelo,Shaddocks,or Buntan (scientific name: Citrus grandis) is a fruit-bearing tree native to the Malay Peninsula and Indonesia, belonging to the family Rutaceae. It is similar to the grapefruit in appearance, content, and taste, but its hard, thick rind is sometimes mistaken for a summer tangerine. The flesh is firm and peels easily from the pouch, so unlike grapefruit, each piece can be removed neatly. It has a well-balanced taste with just the right amount of acidity and sweetness, making it a delicious fruit that is not boring. It is cultivated in the alley or in greenhouses.
