Guarianthe skinneri

Guarianthe skinneri 、Scientific name:, Guarianthe skinneV,i s a native of Costa Rica, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua in Central America, and is a native column of the genus Guarianthe in the family Orchidaceae. It grows on trees and rocks in moist mountainous areas from 200 to 2000 m above sea level. It lives by taking nutrients from the air and sucking rainwater from tree trunks. The plant is 40 to 70 cm tall. It produces two bright green leaves in a Y shape from the valves.
From late March to mid-April, pseudoscales emerge from the tips of the valves to form an ear-shaped inflorescence that produces 5 to 12 flowers. The flowers are 10 to 12.5 cm in diameter and are dark purple-red, white, or pink in color. The flowers have a faint fragrance, and pigmentation can be seen at the back of the calyx tube of the flower. It blooms for 3-4 weeks in its native habitat and was declared the national flower of Costa Rica on June 15, 1939. It is the most common orchid in Costa Rica and is used for garden plantings, walls and roofs. During the Easter season, it is displayed grandly in churches and homes.
