What is Marsh tea

Marsh tea or Ezoisotsutsuji (scientific name: Ledum palustre ssp. Diversipilosum) is an endemic species of Hokkaido,and is an evergreen small shrub belonging to the family Ericaceae. It grows naturally in gravel fields and wetlands of alpine mountains from Hokkaido to Tohoku. Leaves are slender lanceolate form, cortex, thick, there are fine mesh patterns on the leaf table. It is characterized by dense brown hair on young branches and leaves. In the summer, flower stalks are stretched, the scattering inflorescences are extended from the tip, a large number of white small five-flowered flowers are attached, and it blooms in a spherical shape of about 5 cm. Ten long stamens grow from each floret. Leaves have sweetness and may be drunk as sweet tea, howevert it may contain grayanotoxin and cause headache or dizziness.
