Gomphocarpus physocarpus, commonly called balloonplant, balloon cotton-bush, (scientific name: Gomphocarpus physocarpus) is native to South Africa and is a perennial of the family Apocynaceae. The green leaves are elongated and stick against the stem. Similar to Fuchsia in summer A white star-shaped floret blooms downward. In the fall, the fruit bulges like a balloon with bristles on the surface. When the fruit pops, a seed with white fluff comes out. The shape of the fruit is interesting, so it is used for cut flowers and ikebana(flower arrangement). In addition, for plants that swell like balloons, there are Candiospermum halicacabum or Balloon vine (scientific name: Candiospermum halicacabum) .
