Echium plantagineum

Echium plantagineum (scientific name: Echium plantagineum) is a European origin, and an annual grass of the Boraginaceae. In Australia it is considered an invasive weed. White hair grows throughout the grass and the leaves are lanceolate. Purple and bell-shaped flowers bloom in spring. Flower name is based on growing on the roadside as well as chrysanthemum (car tract). It contains alkaloids in foliage and is toxic to livestock such as horses. The herb is said to be the same plant as Echium · licopsis (scientific name: Echium lycopsis).
