Michelia figo (scientific name: Michelia figo) is an evergreen broad-leaved shrub in the family magnoliaceae ,
native to China.
From late spring to summer, small fragrant flowers like bananas bloom.
It came to Japan during the Edo period.
There are white flowers and red flowers. The leaves are shiny, cortical and firm on the surface,
and the leaves are all-edge and alternate.
Tree height is lower than Michelia compressa in Japan.
It is planted as shrines and garden trees as auspicious flowers.
