Cirsium miyamense

Miyama Thistle (Cirsium miyamense) is a species endemic to Japan and a subalpine perennial belonging to the genus Cirsium in the Asteraceae family.
It grows wild in grasslands and gravelly areas of the subalpine zone, such as on Mount Fuji.
It grows to a height of 20 cm to 100 cm.
Its leaves and stems are covered with spines.
From August to September, it produces purple flower heads 6.5–8.5 cm in diameter. The florets are tubular.
The flowers face upward; the involucre (the green, cup-like structure beneath the flower) is sticky (due to nectar glands) and closes in a scaly manner without curving backward.
