Enkianthus quinqueflorus

Enkianthus quinqueflorus or commonly called as Koyasu-doudan in Japanese (scientific name: Enkianthus quinqueflorus) is native to Hong Kong and is a cold-resistant evergreen shrub of the Ericaceae family.
In the spring, it puts out a red peduncle from the axil. Then, it hangs 5 to 10 flowers in a crown shape like a red-bell-shaped bell shape with five tipped cleavages at the tip. In the same genus there is Enkianthus perulatus (Dodan-tsutsuji in Japanese, scientific name: E. perulatus) native to Japan.Dodan-tsutsuji is a deciduous tree, with smaller white flowers blooming than E. quinqueflorus.
