Koenigia weyrichii

Koenigia weyrichii (scientific name: Koenigia weyrichii) is an alpine perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the family Polygonaceae, and is native to Japan, the Kuril Islands and Sakhalin. In summer, the flower stalks emerge and the conical inflorescence grows from the top of the stem and produces many small yellowish-white flowers. However, what looks like this flower is a calyx, with no petals. Ontaede (scientific name: Aconogonon weyrichii var. alpinum) is a variant of K. weyrichii. Whereas K. weyrichii has white downy undersides of leaves and looks white. The undersides of the leaves of Ontaede (A. weyrichii var. alpinum) are green because they are hairless.
