Amanogawa

Amanogawa (scientific name: Prunus lannesiana 'Erecta') is a horticultural variety of the Satozakura Group (Prunus satoensis) of the Oshimazakura family Rosaceae in Japan, and is cultivated for cut flowers. The branches grow upward and do not spread horizontally, so it takes up little space. The leaves open at the same time as or after flowering. The leaves are oblong-ovate with serrated edges and alternate leaflets. The flowers are dark pink in bud and gradually turn light pink after flowering, and bloom in mid to late April with double flowers of 10 to 20 petals, with rather large flowers (about 4 cm in diameter) facing upward. The flowers have an aromatic fragrance, which is rare among cherry trees. The tips of the petals are rounded.
