Quince or Marmelo (scientific name: Cydonia oblonga) is a deciduous small tree or bush and fruit tree in the family Rosaceae native to Central Asia and the Caucasus. It has white pubescence on the back of its leaves. The flowers bloom in late spring-early summer after the leaves have emerged and are white or pink with five petals. The stalks and sepals are hairy. The autumn fruit is an accessory fruit with a pear shape. The fruit is blue when unripe and has white hairs, but turns yellow as it ripens. The fruit is hard and stony and cannot be eaten raw. It has a sweet and sour taste.
