What is Violet wood-sorrel

Violet wood-sorrel (scientific name: Oxalis corymbosa) is a naturalized perennial weed native to South America in the family Oxalidaceae. It grows wild everywhere, including roadsides and gardens. The grass is short. It has three small, heart-shaped leaflets that look like reversed hearts at the end of its long petiole. The foliage is green, but there is also a Regnery species (South America) with purple leaves. In late spring to summer, it produces small purple flowers with an umbrella inflorescence. The flowers are trumpet-shaped with five lobed petal tips. In the evening and in rain, the flowers turn downwards to look like a half-closed shade.
