What is Heliotropium arborescens

Birth flowers for May 24

Heliotropium arborescens (scientific name: Myosotis scorpioides) is native to Peru, and is an evergreen small shrub of the family Boraginaceae. Since it is a plant of the Boraginaceae family, there are many hairs on the leaves and the upright stems. The first year is herbaceous, and from the second year on, it is wooded. The leaves are green and oval in shape, with wrinkles and much larger than flowers. From spring to early fall, it makes drow out indigo-type inflorescence from the end of flower stems to bloom a few short funnel-like florets and it looks like a 5-valve flower because the tip of the funnel-like flower is split into five. It is used as an ornamental or herb. Flower language is "dedication."
Like confrey, heliotrope seeds contain pyrrolizidine alkaloids, which are liver poisons, so it is better to avoid feeding.
