Akebi (scientific name: Akebia quinata) is a vine deciduous shrub of the family Lardizabalaceae, native to Japan, Korea and China. It is dioecious and dioecious. It produces a dioecious, inflorescence in spring with male flowers at the tip and female flowers at the base. There are no petals, and what looks like three petals are the sepals. The female flowers have three large (calyx diameter: 2.5 to 3 cm) purple-brown sepals and six to nine pistils radiating from the center. The male flowers are pale yellow with a small calyx diameter of 1 to 1.5 cm, with six central red-purple stamens.
It produces purple, oblong fruits in the fall. The fruit is edible, and the vines are used to make crafts. The vine, leaves, roots and fruits have diuretic and anti-inflammatory properties.
