Vegetable Fern, Diplazium esculentum (scientific name: Diplazium esculentum) is a perennial evergreen fern from India to South Polynesia and belongs to the family Woodsiaceae. In Japan, it grows in wetlands in the mountains in the southern part of Kyushu to Okinawa Islands. The leaf vein is roped and the solus spreads linearly along its veins. Young leaves are edible vegetables with ferns that can be eaten. If you sprinkle with salt, you will taste like.. Native Hawaiian is used for dishes along Opa' s unique Hawaiian freshwater shrimp, or wrapped around a poi made with Karo (= Taro) and eaten.
