Bergenia, scientific name:Bergenia stracheyi , is a hardy evergreen perennial herb of the Saxifragaceae native to Himalaya. It puts out a shiny rhizome stretching while grasping the ground and a shiny big leaf with a fan or military shape. The leaves are of Rosetta shape, and they are green all the year round. From winter to spring, it puts out a soft, slightly brown flower stalk from between the leaves, creates a cymes inflorescence at the tip, and makes several peach colored or white small flowers divided into groups and blooms several at a time. There are many species and interspecific hybrids. The scientific name "Bergenia" is a German botanist "Karl August von Bergen" a celebration to Dr. Carl Bergen. "Stracheyi" of species species is an offfeing to Mr. Strachey who gathers. Leaves are larger than flowers so they are also foliage plant.
