What is Hosoi cherry

Hosoi cherry (Cerasus x hosoii) is a hybrid between the Someiyoshino (Cerasus x yedoensis cv. yedoensis) and the Shirobana Karami cherry (Cerasus x yedoensis). The tree is low in height and produces many flowers. It was created in 1973 by Mr. Matagoro Hosoi of the Botanical Garden on Hieizan (Mt. Hiei) and named by Dr. Minosuke Hiroe, a botanist and professor at Kyoto University. The flowers fill the branches before the leaves open, and are in full bloom about 10 days before the Somei-Yoshino cherry blossoms.

Common name: Hosoi cherry (Cerasus hosoii), Scientific name: Cerasus x hosoii, Place of origin: Japan.
