Cirsium purpuratum

Takanene Thistle (Cirsium purpuratum var. takanense) is a species endemic to Japan and an alpine perennial belonging to the genus Cirsium in the Asteraceae family.
It is considered a variety of the Fuji Thistle (Cirsium purpuratum).
It grows wild in alpine grasslands and gravelly areas, such as on Mount Fuji.
It grows to a height of 20 cm to 100 cm.
The leaves are deeply pinnately lobed and have spines along the margins. The leaves are arranged so that they clasp the stem.
From August to September, it produces reddish-purple to purple flower heads 6.5–8.5 cm in diameter.
The involucre is not sticky.
