Maruhachi, scientific name:Cyathea mertensiana, is an evergreen large tree ferns of the Cyatheaceae department ,of Cyathea genus endemic to Ogasawara. Upright stem height is 5 ~ 10 meters or higher. Plant name has been named from the things that look like upside-down, "○" in Kanji "8"-shaped marks on the surface of the stem leaves have fallen. To the stem tip leaves the crowding to the coronary.
