“Seeds of Kindness”

At the beginning of spring,
pink carnations bloomed in the garden of an old house.
The house once belonged to Aqua’s grandmother, who lived there alone.
Every year around this time, she would say,
“The flowers of gratitude have bloomed,”
and let young Aqua pick them.

Several years passed after her grandmother’s passing.
The garden had grown a little wild,
yet those carnations continued to bloom
just as they always had.

One day, now grown up,
Aqua decided to inherit the house and live there.
In her hands were a small trowel
and her grandmother’s old flower diary.

“She used to say,
‘These flowers bloom only on the days
you are kind to someone.’”

Aqua gently loosened the soil
and planted a new seedling beside the old carnations—
a different variety of pink carnation she had grown herself.

“Now it’s my turn to make these flowers bloom.”

From that day on, two kinds of pink carnations
bloomed side by side in front of Aqua’s home every year.

One was a gift from the past.
The other, a kindness for the future.

The pink carnation’s meanings—
gratitude, warmth, mother’s love—
are proof that kindness
is quietly passed down.

On January 11,
the kindness blooming within you
will surely take root
in someone’s heart.
