Six-rowed barley(scientific name: Hordeum vulgar f. hexastichon) is a subspecies of barley.
There are three types of barley depending on the shape of the ear: six-rowed barley (H. vulgare f. hexastichon), four-rowed barley (H. vulgare subsp. vulgare), and two-rowed barley (H. vulgare f. distichon).Six-row barley bears six rows of ears in all.
The cross-section of the ear is a regular hexagon, the ear shape is dense, and the wheat grains are small, neatly arranged, and high in protein.
The six-rowed barley is used for food and barley tea, the two-rowed barley is used to make beer and shochu, and the naked barley is used to make miso (fermented bean paste).
