Ixora macrothyrsa

Ixora macrothyrsa (scientific name; Ixora macrothyrsa) is an evergreen shrub native to Celebes Island and belonging to the family Rubiaceaee, genus Ixora. Since its introduction to Suriname from India, the Faja lobi has become the most popular flower and is considered the national flower of Suriname. Faja lobi is the Surinamese word for the genus Faja lobi, which in Latin means Ixora, and in particular Ixora macrothyrsa, a species of Ixora. In Surinamese, fayalobi means "intense love. This flower is also known as king ixora or African ixora. The tree is about 2 m tall, with inflorescences 15 to 20 cm in diameter and dark red flowers that gradually turn dark purple-red. It has bright red flowers, which may be similar to those of Ixora coccinea and Ixora duffii, which we are familiar with. There are records of Bactrocera dorsalis species complex (mandarin fruit fly) being found in Ixora macrothyrsa when it was imported to Japan.
