Iwagirisou

Iwagirisou (scientific name: Opithandra primuloides) is native to Japan, and is a summer green perennial of Gesneriaceae family. It spontaneously grows on rocky places and trees in the Kinki-west to Shikoku, Kyushu. It puts out a lot of root leaves from the rhizomes. In the early summer, several stems of flowers are stretched from between the leaves, and about 10 pieces of purplish red flowers are bloomed in a scattering inflorescence. The Japanese name grows on the rock and it depends on the leaves resembling paulownia.
