What is Atamizakura

Atami-zakura (scientific name: Prunus kanzakura) is a deciduous tree "Kanzakura" of the family Rosaceae in the Atami region that blooms from January to February. It makes pink to light crimson-collored, single and small, five-valved flowers bloom.

According to Atami Tourist Association official tourist website "Atami News", "Atami -zakura" is "the earliest cherry blossom in Japan", a type of Kanzakura originating in India. It was brought to Atami by Italians in the Meiji 4 era and proliferation was carried out and it is offered to Shimoda's Shrine, Ise Shrine and Togugosho. It was named "Atami-zakura", it was designated as a tree of Atami city. Parents are said to be 'Kanzakura' blossoms from Taiwan and Okinawa , and Japanese 'Yamazakura' , from pollen morphology analysis etc.
