Sarcomyxa serotina

Sarcomyxa serotina or mukitake (scientific name: Sarcomyxa serotina) is an edible mushroom native to the temperate zone and north of the Northern Hemisphere, belonging to the family Typhulaceae and the genus Sarcomyxa. It grows in clusters on dead or fallen trunks of beech, Quercus crispula, Quercus serotina, and other broadleaf trees. The stem is thick and short, similar to the hiratake and shiitake mushrooms. The umbrellas are semi-circular, with a 10-cm-long cap and a pale ochre color. It is odorless, thick-fleshed, elastic, and tastes good when eaten as a one-pot dish.
