What is Lilium maculatum

Lilium maculatum、or Sukashiyuri, or Iwayuri (scientific name: Lilium maculatum) is native to Japan and is a perennial of the amily Liliaceae. It is also called Iwayuri. In summer, six petal flowers (actually three petals and three calyxs) with reddish brown spots scattered on a bright orange ground on the coastal rocky or sandy land in a harsh natural environment with strong winds containing salt . The Japanese name comes from the fact that the roots of the petals are thin and gaps are created. Group of Lilium maculatum includes Ezoskashiyuri (Lilium pensylvanicum) and Himeyuri ( Lilium concolor Salisb.).
