Monkeypod or rain tree (scientific name: Albizia saman or Samanea samanm) is a tall evergreen tree in the family Fabaceae, native to western India and central Africa. It is known for its commercial for a machine manufacturer that says, "What is this tree? The tree is symmetrical and spreads out widely to the sides. The leaves are twice-billed compound leaves similar to those of a fern. It opens its leaves in the morning and closes them in the evening and when it rains. Leaves and large branches may also fall off in wet weather or in the evening. Produces thousands of puffy pink flowers resembling a nemme-like flower with red and white stamens protruding from the leaf axils. The tree is used for green shade trees and the wood is used for furniture.
