Violet

Violet (scientific name: Viola mandshurica) is a generic name for perennial wildflowers of the genus Violetus (Violetaceae), native to Japan, the Korean Peninsula, and China.
In a narrow sense, varieties of Viola mandshurica are called violets.
It produces pretty small flowers in spring along mountainsides, fields, and roadsides.
The flowers are symmetrical and are often borne in a single pendulous inflorescence.
The typical flower color is purple, but white and yellow flowers are also produced.
The leaves have slightly longer petioles and are often heart-shaped.
Violets have five petals, the upper two petals being called the "upper petal," the two petals on each side being called the "side petals," and the lower one being the "lip petal.
The base of the lip petal is characterized by a swollen, protruding "thallus" at the back.
Pansies are the garden variety of violets. There are stemmed and sterile varieties of violets.
