The big dewdrop (scientific name: Commelina communis var. hortensis) is a cultivated variety of the wildflower, in the family of the Commelina , which is an improved and enlarged version of the Commelina(scientific name: Commelina communis). It has already existed since the Edo period (1603-1868), when its large blue petals were used as a blue dye. It is also known as 'aobana' (blue flower) due to its flower colour.
