Camellia sasanqua (scientific name: Camellia sasanqua) is a Japanese unique species and is an evergreen wide-leaved tree of the family Theaceae.
In Japan, it grows naturally in mountainous areas of Honshu Yamaguchi prefecture south, Shikoku, Kyushu, Okinawa.
It is a precious flower blooming in winter when other flowers do not bloom.
The native species in Japan are white, but the gardening variety also has pink and red. Camellia japonica (Tsubaki).
It is similar to the camellia of the same family, but Sasanqua is jagged at the leaf margin, and the petals are scattered apart. It is also a hand to check with petals that fell to the ground.
As with camellia, fruit is collected in Sasanqua and oil is collected.
The genus "Camellia" is a contribution to the Czech botanist Georg Joseph "Kamel",and the species name "sasanqua" is named after the Japanese "Sasanqua".
