Coreopsis tinctoria, plains coreopsis, garden tickseed, golden tickseed,or harusha giku , sciensific name: Coreopsis tinctoria, is a naturalized plant of the annual herb of the family Asteraceae, which is native to the Midwest of North America. It came to Japan in the early Meiji period. They are 60-80 cm tall and some 30 cm dwarf varieties. The leaves are thin winged compound leaves and are opposite to each other. A typical cultivar has a yellow petal tip and a scarlet red inside. Besides, there are also yellow single color and dark red brown single color. In addition to dwarf varieties with low plant height, there are double-bred varieties. It is strong and wild enough to grow as soon as the seeds come off. It blooms anytime except when the climate is severe, but it blooms in June to August in the case of autumn sowing. The flower diameter is about 3 to 4 cm. The fruit that comes after the flower is shaped like a worm. Applications include flower beds and planters, potted plants and cut flowers.
