Prunus domestica

Prunus domestica (Scientific name: Prunus domestica) is a small deciduous tree and its fruit of the genus Prunus in the family Rosaceae, native to the Caucasus and Caspian coasts. The fruit is edible and is cultivated for its fruit. The tree is 8 to 12 meters tall. The leaves are elliptic to ovate, 5 to 10 cm long, and have serrated edges. It produces small five-petaled flowers with a diameter of about 2 cm in spring. In late summer and early autumn, it produces an ovoid fruit with dark red to dark blue skin and yellow or dark red flesh with a sour taste. There is one large seed in the center of the fruit. The fruit is rich in dietary fiber and provides vitamin A and vitamin E. The plant fiber is said to be good for bowel movement, and is mainly available as dried fruit.
