Barnardia japonica, Japanese jacinth, tsurubo, ( scientific name: Barnardia japonica) is a cold-resistant perennial (bulbous plant) in the family Asparagaceae, native to Japan, the Korean Peninsula, China, Taiwan and other East Asian countries. It grows wild in grasslands from Hokkaido to Kyushu and Okinawa. The leaves are linearly root-grown and do not have stem leaves. It produces upright flower stalks between the leaves and produces pink flowers in late summer-early summer by growing inflorescences in the form of a cluster. The bulbs are poisonous.
