What is Alocasia

Alocasia odora , giant upright elephant ear, Asian taro or night-scented lily, (scientific name: Alocasia odora) is native to India, the Philippines and Taiwan, and is an evergreen perennial plant belonging to the genus Alocasia. It has a thick tree-like rhizome underground, and its leaves are similar to giant taro. In the summer, a pale yellow inflorescence similar to baby corn, with a light green Buddha bud, blooms. The upper part of the inflorescence is a male flower, and the lower part is a female flower. Because the large leaves resemble the ears of an elephant, they are also called Elephant ears. As the whole plant, such as rhizomes and red fruits, is toxic, it is not edible, as the name implies.
