What is Hops

Hops (scientific name: Humulus lupulus) is a perennial vine native to Central Asia. In Japan, it grows wild in Hokkaido. The plant is 10 to 12 cm tall, and its tendrils grow in a creeping manner. It is dioecious, and produces spherical flowers resembling pine needles from July to September. The flowers are used as a bittering ingredient in beer and as fresh flowers.
