What is common horsetail

Common horsetail or Tokusa (scientific name:Equisetum hyemale) is a hardwood perennial in the family Equisetaceaee native to temperate region of the northern hemisphere including Japan. It gathers stems like ultramarine bamboo standing upright from the rhizome. The stem is hollow with many knots. There is a jagged hakama with green leaves deformed around the clause. In the summer, it takes out the spiked stem with the spore leaf group from the tip of the stem and skim the spores. Since it is a fern, there are no flowers. Applications are made with ornamental garden plant, Ikebana material, abrasive using stalk.
